Training Dealer Staff for the Launch of SHIMANO STEPS

The Challenge

When SHIMANO introduced its new STEPS e-bike powertrain to the Dutch, Belgian, and Luxembourg markets in late 2014, a comprehensive training program was essential to ensure that dealer staff had the necessary technical knowledge and servicing skills. SHIMANO required a structured and scalable training solution to equip its entire dealer network—with a goal of training 60 staff members per day.

Our Approach

Innovam was responsible for the full design and rollout of the training program, ensuring that dealer staff could maintain and service the new SHIMANO STEPS system effectively. Our approach included:

  • Co-development of training materials and practical assignments in close collaboration with SHIMANO, ensuring high-quality content.
  • A bilingual training rollout, utilizing both Dutch- and French-speaking technical trainers with extensive experience in e-bike systems.
  • A strong focus on hands-on learning, allowing participants to engage with real-world servicing tasks and gain personal experience.
  • Full project management and training administration, allowing SHIMANO to focus on its market introduction while Innovam handled logistics, coordination, and execution.

By combining interactive learning with expert trainers, Innovam ensured that dealer staff not only gained technical expertise but also had the opportunity to provide direct feedback to SHIMANO on potential product improvements.

The Impact

Within just three months, Innovam successfully trained over 10.000 dealer staff across the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. The training was highly rated by participants, earning an average score of 9 out of 10.

This collaboration not only contributed to a smooth market introduction of SHIMANO STEPS but also laid the foundation for ongoing training programs. Due to the success of the initial rollout, Innovam now delivers annual update training sessions to ensure that dealer staff stay up to date with technical improvements to the system.
